Working Kelpie - Australian Kelpie?
We have had several people in training who bought an Australian Kelpie because the breeder said the dog could also work sheep.
Only the WORKING Kelpie can truly work sheep; the Australian Kelpie CANNOT, or not well enough! The Australian Kelpie is a very nice family dog, with which you can do many sports, but the real sheep work has been bred out of it!
We want to warn you about people offering Kelpies that are supposedly able to work sheep, but who are not willing or able to show this. Do not buy such a dog; you will be buying a pig in a poke!
Ask for the papers from the Working Kelpie Council in Australia, and we advise you to see both parent dogs working sheep!
